NATURE OF WORK:
This is a mayoral-appointed, responsible administrative and supervisory
position, involving work in planning, organizing, and directing programs and
policy development for youth of the City of New Haven. Work involves
providing active leadership in community education, initiating and
maintaining programs, supervising professional staff and activities for the
youth community. Work is carried out under the direction of the Community
Services Administrator and is evaluated by the results obtained.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course
work in social services, youth development or public administration, masters
preferred, and 2 to 4 years experience in administration of social services;
or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the
following knowledge, abilities and skills listed in job description,
including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of the laws, rules and
regulations and best practices governing and/or impacting the administration
of youth programs; Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of
administration as applied to a public organization; Considerable knowledge
of sources of funding for the planning, development, initiation, and program
management of youth services; Knowledge of sources of information and
research techniques in the field of services provided for youth;
Considerable knowledge and proficiency with computer programs such as
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; Ability to work with various
levels of government and private groups and individuals in the management of
contracts of services to youth.
SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT:
Residency in the City of New Haven is required within six months of
appointment.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of (1) a background check, (2) a physical examination, including drug screening and (3) a 90-day probationary period.

Responsibilities for one of the VISTA members will include reaching out to families who live in the neighborhoods where our rehabbed properties are located, conducting neighborhood surveys, developing workshop materials, recruiting resident volunteers and building collaborations and partnerships with city officials, local business owners, faith-based organizations and other nonprofit organizations. One of the VISTA members will work with the resource development specialist on planning and implementing special fundraising events, managing the organization’s website and Facebook account, researching and tracking new funding opportunities, as well as performing general administrative tasks, as needed. Working with the Director of Design and Construction, one of the VISTA members with an architectural background will assist with the current inventory of one-to-three family properties that are scheduled to be fully rehabilitated for homeownership opportunities.
This position requires a commitment to serve as a full-time employee for one full year. Compensation is paid directly to VISTA Leaders in the form of a small monthly living allowance from AmeriCorp* VISTA. Other benefits include health coverage, child care, 10 days of personal leave and 10 days of sick leave. At the end of the term of service, an education award or cash stipend will be provided. The Friends of East Rock Park (www.friendsofeastrockpark.org) is looking for a part-time youth supervisor to implement an environmental youth work program this summer.
Program description:
You will lead a group of seven New Haven high school youth interns who will work 20 hours a week in the park. The group will work alongside community members and volunteers on their own environmental projects, learning valuable long-term work skills.

Bicycle Education, Entrepreneurship and Enrichment Programs (BEEEP!, Inc.) is gearing up for another season of activities in South Central Connecticut. We are looking to fill several volunteer and a few paid (part-time and independent contractor) positions. These include the following:

BEEEP!, Inc. is a social enterprise dedicated to teaching young people about bicycle safety, repair and maintenance, orienting them to safe commuting routes, taking them on bicycle tours and introducing them to the wide world of cycling. The for-profit arm of this nonprofit organization was established to underwrite BEEEP's educational and recreational activities and to provide employment for New Haven area residents.

NMS Seeks Development Associate
Neighborhood Music School (New Haven, CT) seeks a Development Associate to provide database expertise and oversight as well as user support and training for development. The primary function of this role is to be the project lead, managing development systems for this $4 Million, arts education organization.
The Development Associate will:
• Provide movement analysis, the identification of strengths and weaknesses as well as potential threats and latent opportunities found in donor activity and income trends at NMS.
• Supervise prospect/donor tracking, pledge administration, all donor financial transactions, produce acknowledgements and various related correspondences, produce lists and reports, and establish procedures for maintaining donor files.
• Serve as the lead for alumni relations, working to identify and recruit Alumni and build an Alumni Association in an effort to track, re-engage, and cultivate Alumni of the Neighborhood Music School.
• Support the Director of Development and interface with School leadership, Board of Directors, and staff/faculty. Other support as required for events, meetings and trainings.
Requirements: Three to five years of related experience in development for a non-profit; very high proficiency in computer skills, with 3 or more years experience with The Raiser’s Edge; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; proven skills in Crystal Reporting; adept at translating data into useful decision-making information for the Finance and Development departments, as well as to the Board of Directors; detail orientation is required.
Preferred: Understanding of and/or background in the arts is beneficial.
